Short answer: most Whirlpool appliances come with a one-year limited warranty that covers factory-specified parts and repair labor for one year from the date you bought it. So the first question to settle is simple — how old is your appliance, and do you have proof of purchase? Here's how to figure out where you stand, and what your options are either way.
What Whirlpool's warranty actually covers
Whirlpool's standard major-appliance limited warranty runs one year from the date of purchase. During that year, when the appliance is installed, operated and maintained according to the instructions, Whirlpool pays for factory-specified replacement parts and the repair labor to correct defects in materials or workmanship. A few things worth knowing:
- Parts and labor are both included for that first year — not just the part.
- Warranty service is provided through a Whirlpool-designated service company. That matters — in-warranty repairs are arranged through Whirlpool's own service network, not just any independent shop.
- Consumables aren't covered — things like light bulbs, water filters and air filters are excluded, as are repairs from unauthorized modifications or improper installation.
- The warranty is valid in the U.S. and Canada, and it's void if the factory serial number has been removed or altered.
The same terms apply across the Whirlpool family — Maytag, KitchenAid, Amana, JennAir and Roper are all Whirlpool brands and carry the same one-year structure, though specific models can differ, so always check your own paperwork.
How to tell if yours is still covered
There are two ways to work it out:
- Your receipt or delivery date. The one-year clock starts at purchase, so if you have proof of purchase, this is the definitive answer.
- The manufacture date on the serial number. No receipt? The serial number tells you roughly how old the appliance is. Run it through our free Whirlpool serial number lookup — it reads the week of manufacture and the plausible year off the tag. Whirlpool reuses its date codes, so the tool may show more than one possible year; if you're close to the one-year line and need certainty, text us a photo of the tag and we'll pin it down.
- Whirlpool's own records. If you registered the appliance — or bought it recently — Whirlpool's Owner Center ties your model and serial to the purchase date on file, which is the exact date the warranty clock runs from. That's the authoritative source when you need it down to the day.
If the appliance was built well over a year ago, it's almost certainly past the standard warranty. If it's newer than that — or you're not sure — it's worth confirming before you pay for anything.
If you're still under warranty
Because in-warranty Whirlpool repairs go through Whirlpool's designated service network, the route is to contact Whirlpool (or the retailer you bought from) to arrange covered service. Tell us what's going on and we'll happily point you in the right direction — and if your appliance is only just inside the window, or you'd rather not wait for a warranty appointment, we can usually get to it sooner on a straightforward out-of-pocket basis. No pressure either way; we'd rather you keep your coverage if it's the better deal for you.
If you're out of warranty (where most people are)
Once you're past that first year — which is where the large majority of appliances are — this is exactly what we do. Louisville Appliance Repair services the full Whirlpool family across Stark County with OEM parts, and we'll give you an honest read on whether a repair makes sense before you spend a dime. In most cases it does: a single failed component — a washer lid switch, a dryer heating element, a refrigerator ice maker, a dishwasher drain pump — is far cheaper than replacing a machine that otherwise has years left in it. The best appliance is usually the one already in your home.
We complete most Whirlpool repairs same-day or next-day, and the technician who diagnoses your appliance is the one who fixes it — no handoffs. See our full Whirlpool appliance repair page for what we cover, or schedule online and we'll get you on the calendar.
Whirlpool warranty questions
How long is the Whirlpool warranty?
Most Whirlpool major appliances carry a one-year limited warranty on factory-specified parts and repair labor, starting from the date of purchase. Specific models can vary, so check the paperwork that came with yours.
How do I check if my Whirlpool is under warranty without a receipt?
Use the serial number. Our free Whirlpool serial number lookup reads the manufacture date off the tag so you can see roughly how old the appliance is. If it's comfortably over a year old, it's past the standard warranty; if it's close, text us a photo of the tag and we'll confirm.
Does the Whirlpool warranty cover labor or just parts?
Both, for the first year. Whirlpool's one-year limited warranty covers factory-specified parts and the labor to install them. After that first year, parts and labor are the owner's responsibility — which is where we come in.
Do Maytag, KitchenAid and Amana have the same warranty?
They're all Whirlpool-family brands and share the same one-year limited-warranty structure, though individual models can differ. We service all of them with OEM parts, in or out of warranty.
My Whirlpool is out of warranty — is it worth repairing?
Usually, yes. A single failed part is almost always far less than the cost of a new machine, and a well-built Whirlpool has plenty of life left after a common repair. Tell us the problem and we'll give you a straight repair-vs-replace answer before any work — call (330) 693-9163 or schedule online.
