GE dryer (GTD42EASJ2WW) — Akron, OH

GE dryer (GTD42EASJ2WW) — Akron, OH

Reported: The customer reported their dryer was heating up but the drum wasn’t rotating at all. Clothes were getting warm but not tumbling, which meant they weren’t drying properly. This is one of the most common dryer failures we see on GE units from this era.

Diagnosis: Opening the dryer cabinet revealed a broken drive belt that had snapped and fallen to the bottom of the unit. The belt connects the motor pulley to the drum, and when it breaks, the drum loses all rotation while other components like the heating element continue working. On this model, the belt also operates the blower wheel, so airflow was reduced as well.

Repair: Work: Removed cabinet, installed new belt around motor pulley and drum, reassembled unit · Parts: WE03X29897 — drive belt · Result: Drum rotates properly, full airflow restored, normal drying cycle verified

Admiral refrigerator (FRS6LF7JS3) — Akron, OH

Admiral refrigerator (FRS6LF7JS3) — Akron, OH

Reported: Water was leaking from underneath the refrigerator, creating puddles on the kitchen floor. The homeowner noticed the issue had been getting progressively worse over several days, with more water appearing each morning.

Diagnosis: The defrost drain hose was completely blocked with ice and debris. When the defrost cycle runs, melted water from the evaporator coils normally drains through this hose to the drain pan underneath. With the blockage, water was backing up and overflowing into the refrigerator compartment, then leaking out onto the floor. Ice had built up around the drain opening in the freezer section, creating a solid plug.

Repair: Work: Cleared ice buildup from freezer drain opening, flushed defrost drain hose with warm water · Parts: None required · Result: Water flows freely through drain system, no more leaks detected

Frigidaire refrigerator (FLSC23F6DSN) — Alliance, OH

Reported: The dryer still heats up but it only runs for about 5 minutes then shuts off and throws E64 error code.

Diagnosis: The E64 error code on this Electrolux model indicates a heating element failure. The element was drawing incorrect amperage, causing the thermal protection system to shut down the unit after a few minutes of operation.

Repair: Work: Replaced heat element · Parts: 134792700 — ELEMENT · Result: Good to go

LG washer (WM3570H*A) — Alliance, OH

Reported: The customer explained that her husband had called a local repair guy who replaced the pump but did not wait until the washer even went through a cycle. Water was pouring out the door after the repair. She believed the technician did not replace the spring that holds the gasket in place, noting she saw the spring and less than 30 seconds later he was screwing on the front of the door before leaving quickly.

Diagnosis: Upon inspection, we found the door boot and spring had been improperly installed during the previous repair attempt. The rushed installation had left the door seal compromised, allowing water to leak during operation. We also checked for other potential issues and discovered the bearings are loose, indicating the machine’s overall condition is declining.

Repair: Work: Reinstalled door boot and spring correctly, checked for other issues · Parts: No parts needed — existing components properly reinstalled · Result: Door seal properly secured, no water leakage during test cycle

Frigidaire range (LGGF3044LQC) — Canton, OH

Reported: The customer reported their Frigidaire range was taking 15-20 minutes to preheat when it should take 6-8 minutes. More concerning was the noticeable gas smell during the long ignition attempts. The oven would eventually heat up, but something was clearly wrong with the ignition system.

Diagnosis: We tested the oven igniter with an amp meter and found it was only drawing 2.8 amps instead of the required 3.2-3.6 amps needed to open the gas valve. The weak igniter would glow orange but couldn’t generate enough heat to properly signal the gas valve to open quickly. This caused the extended preheat times and allowed unburned gas to accumulate, creating the odor the customer noticed.

Repair: Work: Removed old igniter, installed new unit, tested ignition cycle · Parts: 316489403 — oven igniter assembly · Result: Oven now lights in 38 seconds and reaches preheat temperature in 6 minutes

Reported: The dryer won’t turn off unless unplugged. The heat turns off when the cycle is over but keeps tumbling.

Diagnosis: The control board had failed. The motor relay was stuck closed and the motor ran whenever the machine was plugged in.

Repair: Work: Diagnosed failed control board · Parts: None — part wasn’t available anymore · Result: Customer will replace the unit

Whirlpool refrigerator — Canton, OH

Reported: The customer reported the refrigerator was not cooling at all. No refrigeration meant food spoilage and an urgent need for diagnosis.

Diagnosis: Testing revealed the wall outlet had only 70 volts instead of the required 120 volts, which prevented the fridge from operating correctly. This insufficient voltage was starving the refrigerator of the power it needed to run its cooling system.

Repair: Work: Plugged refrigerator into a different outlet temporarily, cleaned the fins underneath, installed new filter, and replaced ice maker optical sensor · Parts: EDR3RXD1 Filter 3, W10757851 electronic control, W10811169 control panel · Result: Refrigerator resumed normal operation when connected to proper voltage

Reported: The customer reported their washer washes fine but won’t drain or spin. The machine would fill and agitate normally during the wash cycle, but when it came time to drain and spin the clothes dry, nothing happened.

Diagnosis: The lid switch had failed. This safety component prevents the washer from spinning when the lid is open, but when it fails, it can also prevent spinning even when the lid is properly closed. Without a functioning lid switch, the washer’s control system won’t allow the drain and spin cycles to operate.

Repair: Work: Replaced the failed lid switch · Parts: WP8318084 — lid switch · Result: After replacing it, the washer is working great
