Diagnosis: We tested the compressor circuit and found the start relay had completely failed. The relay’s internal contacts were burned and no longer making electrical connection. Diagnosis: Upon inspection of the Samsung RFG296HDPN freezer compartment, we confirmed the ice maker’s shut off arm was indeed bent. Though it was still operating, the damaged component compromised the unit’s reliability and efficiency.

LG washer (WM2101HW) — Massillon, OH

Reported: The customer reported that water sat on bottom and it wouldn’t spin. Water is gone now though. It did spin in diagnostic mode.

Diagnosis: Even though the washer appeared to be working when we tested it in diagnostic mode, the intermittent drainage issue pointed to a blockage in the drain system. We checked the drain hose and found the culprit upstream from the coin trap.

Whirlpool dryer (Duet) — Minerva, OH

Reported: The customer called because their Whirlpool Duet dryer was overheating and had stopped running entirely. They could feel excessive heat coming from the unit during the last few cycles before it quit. No lights, no tumbling, no heat — completely dead.

Diagnosis: The high limit thermal fuse tested open with our multimeter. This safety component sits on the blower housing and cuts power when internal temperatures exceed 220°F. The fuse had done its job — protecting the dryer from a potential fire by sacrificing itself when airflow became restricted.

Diagnosis: We accessed the rear compartment and identified the fresh food evaporator fan as the source of the noise. The fan motor was struggling to maintain consistent operation, causing the varying sound levels before temporarily shutting down.

Diagnosis: We found that the stove had been switched from natural gas to propane but not adjusted properly. The conversion hadn’t included the necessary adjustments to the gas valves and ignition system.

Maytag Washer; refrigerator (MVWB835DW4, 596.76603602) — Tallmadge, OH

Reported: The customer reported water pooling inside their refrigerator’s freezer compartment and noticed their Maytag washer leaking underneath during wash cycles. They also mentioned their dishwasher had quit working, though this turned out to be a false alarm.

Diagnosis: The dishwasher tested normally when we arrived — likely just a temporary glitch. The refrigerator’s water inlet valve (WP67006531) had failed internally, allowing water to leak into the freezer instead of flowing properly to the ice maker and dispenser. On the washer, the drain hose had developed a crack near the connection point, causing water to seep out during the drain cycle.

Diagnosis: After opening the dryer cabinet, we confirmed the customer’s suspicion. The idler pulley had worn out, causing the loud operational noise. The idler pulley maintains proper belt tension and when it fails, the belt can slip or create excessive noise during operation.
