When pressing temp up or down button, all buttons are lit up and displays 888 on both fridge and freezer sides. When the customer lets go of the button, all lights go out. It doesn’t cool.

Diagnosis: The diagnostic display showing 888 across all segments typically indicates a control board failure. Upon inspection, we found the main high voltage control board on the fridge was burnt out, confirming the power surge had damaged this critical component.

GE refrigerator (PFS22SISBSS) — North Canton, OH

Reported: The customer reported that their fridge will not cool while the freezer is working. This French door, bottom freezer model was maintaining freezer temperatures but couldn’t keep the refrigerator section cold.

Diagnosis: We found the freezer evaporator fan motor had failed. This motor is responsible for circulating cold air from the freezer evaporator coils up into the refrigerator compartment. Without it running, the freezer stays cold but the fresh food section warms up.

Diagnosis: The shocks to hold the tub up were worn out. These damper assemblies are critical for controlling tub movement during the spin cycle, and when they fail, the washer cannot maintain proper balance even at lower speeds.

Reported: The customer came home from a short vacation and all of the food in the freezer had thawed completely. The temperature in the fridge and freezer was well above what it should be. They tried to reset it but that did not seem to work, and the unit was not getting cold.

Diagnosis: Our inspection found a bad inverter controlling the compressor operation. The inverter board regulates the compressor’s speed and operation, and when it fails, the refrigerator loses its ability to maintain proper cooling temperatures in both the refrigerator and freezer compartments.

Kenmore dryer (11096585210) — North Canton, OH

Diagnosis: We found a bad hub assembly. When we removed it, the transmission shaft was badly corroded underneath. This level of corrosion typically indicates long-term moisture exposure and suggests the transmission may have additional internal damage.

Admiral washer (NTW4610YQ0) — North Canton, OH

Reported: The customer reported that when they put clothes in, closed the lid, and pushed the button to start, it would sense the clothes and start to fill with water but stop midway and not go through the cycle. The washer had a sensor that was detecting the load properly, but something was preventing normal operation.

Diagnosis: The error code F8E1 indicated NO FILL, LONG FILL, which pointed to a water supply issue. During our investigation, we discovered that Roto Rooter had moved the laundry equipment while doing a plumbing repair and failed to turn the water back on. The machine properly executed all functions when we ran it through manual diagnostic mode once water was restored.

Kenmore washer — North Canton, OH

Reported: The customer’s washer was displaying the F21 code after completing a load of laundry. The clothes were still soaking wet, as if the washer hadn’t done the spin cycle. When the customer tried to set the washer to do a second rinse, spin, and even an extended spin, the washer continued showing the F21 code and at one point also displayed Sud.

Diagnosis: The F21 error code on Kenmore washers typically indicates a drain issue preventing proper water removal during the spin cycle. Upon inspection, we discovered the root cause: small articles of clothing had been sucked into the drain pump, blocking normal water flow and preventing the spin cycle from completing properly.

Amana refrigerator (AFI2538AEW) — North Canton, OH

Diagnosis: Upon arrival, we found the GFCI outlet that the refrigerator was plugged into had tripped. This is a common issue with outdoor appliances, as GFCI outlets are designed to trip when they detect any ground fault for safety reasons.

Amana refrigerator (BRD18V1S) — North Canton, OH

Reported: The customer reported their Amana refrigerator’s ice maker was dripping and creates ice with debris. This made the ice unusable and created a mess in the freezer compartment.

Diagnosis: We found the lining was flaking off of the old ice maker and the water was leaking out. The deteriorating internal coating was contaminating the ice while the water leaks created the dripping issue.

Frigidaire washer (FEX831SF0) — North Canton, OH

Reported: The customer reported that their washer doesn’t work at all and dryer isn’t heating. Both appliances had stopped functioning completely, suggesting an electrical issue rather than individual appliance failures.

Diagnosis: The outlet in the wall had a loose wire in it. The red one was totally loose. This was a definite problem with the apartment wiring, not with the appliance.

GE refrigerator (GSS22SGMD BS) — North Canton, OH

Reported: The customer reported their GE refrigerator suddenly stopped cooling. Water and ice does not dispense, though the inside lights still work normally.

Diagnosis: During our inspection, we found the control board was noticeably burnt out. This explained why the refrigerator lost cooling function and the water/ice dispenser stopped working, while the lighting circuit remained operational on a separate system.

Reported: The customer reported their Speed Queen dryer smells hot and makes a noise when under a load. These symptoms typically point to drum support issues that create excessive friction during operation.

Diagnosis: We found the rear support rollers had worn out. When these rollers fail, the dryer drum doesn’t rotate smoothly, causing it to wobble and rub against other components. This creates both the noise and the hot smell from friction heat.

Reported: The customer reported they could smell natural gas when they use the oven or stove. This understandably raised safety concerns about a possible gas leak in their kitchen.

Diagnosis: Testing revealed the oven lit in 45 seconds, which shows the igniter is good — if it takes more than a minute and half it could be weak. The oven preheated in 8.5 minutes and when shut off, completely went out. The oven appears to be operating correctly. The smell from the oven is typical of natural gas ovens when in use.

Diagnosis: We found the door switch not making good connection. This safety switch tells the dishwasher when the door is properly closed and latched, allowing the fill cycle to begin. Without a proper connection, the control board won’t activate the water inlet valve.
