Diagnosis: Fred was cooling fine at time of appointment. Freezer was not. Condenser fan, evaporator fan and compressor were all running. Despite all the major cooling components operating normally, the performance issues indicated the appliance may be reaching the end of its reliable service life.

Diagnosis: The funnel on the icemaker had broken off. When it cycled, it was just putting the water straight into the bottom of the freezer where it froze and created ice/frost. Without the funnel to direct water into the ice molds, the system couldn’t function properly.

Kenmore dryer (417.97922701) — North Canton, OH

Reported: The customer reported that the back of the dryer inside the unit began by not drying clothes, with lint cleaned from the trap after every use. Upon looking at it themselves, it began to spark and had since been unplugged from the outlet.

Diagnosis: The heating element was shorted and had failed. This type of failure can create dangerous sparking and poses a fire hazard. The element coil had broken down internally, causing electrical arcing that the customer witnessed.

Whirlpool washer (WTW5000DW1) — North Canton, OH

Diagnosis: Our inspection revealed that the spin hub and agitator had failed, preventing the washer from properly extracting water during the spin cycle. These components are critical for the high-speed spinning that removes moisture from clothes.

Reported: The customer reported: I don’t think something is spraying. The soap is still caked on the door. This symptom pointed to inadequate water spray reaching the dishes and door during the wash cycle.

Diagnosis: We diagnosed a failed turbidity sensor in this KitchenAid KUDC10FXBL1 dishwasher. The turbidity sensor monitors water clarity and helps control wash cycle intensity and water circulation. When it fails, the dishwasher can’t properly adjust spray patterns and wash performance suffers.

Maytag refrigerator (MFC2062FEZ) — North Canton, OH

Reported: The customer reported a leak on left side in freezer where ice maker meets left wall. Water was accumulating in the freezer compartment, creating a mess and potentially affecting food storage.

Diagnosis: Upon examination, we found the teflon lining had loosened on the ice mold and the water was wicking out from that. This is a common failure point where the protective coating deteriorates over time, allowing water to escape during the ice-making cycle.

Maytag washer (MVWX655DW1) — North Canton, OH

Diagnosis: After examining both appliances, we found the dishwasher had multiple system failures that made repair cost-prohibitive. The microwave’s control board failure meant replacement was the most practical solution.

Kenmore washer (417.94802301) — Sherrodsville, OH

Diagnosis: Testing revealed the timer had failed completely. This component controls the wash cycle progression and when it fails, the washer won’t start or advance through any cycles regardless of how the control knob is manipulated.

Maytag dryer (mce8000ayw) — Stow, OH

Reported: The customer reported that their dryer was making noise when tumbling. Despite the noise, it was doing okay drying clothes. They suspected it may be a belt causing the problem.

Diagnosis: Upon inspection, we found that a sheet rock screw had gotten jammed in the slide area on the drum. This foreign object was causing the noise during the tumbling cycle, not a belt issue as initially suspected.

Electrolux dryer (EFME617STT0) — Uniontown, OH

Diagnosis: The heating element had failed, which caused the dryer’s safety systems to shut down the cycle after just 10 seconds. A faulty heating element can trigger multiple symptoms including cycle interruption, unusual noises, and vibration as the dryer struggles to operate normally.

Whirlpool refrigerator (ED5VHEXVB04) — Uniontown, OH

After pulling the front panel off and sweeping out the dust as much as possible, it then began to cool again. After a few hours the same problem was back with neither side cooling and the same buzzing noise.

Diagnosis: The symptoms pointed to a compressor start issue. The buzzing noise occurring every few minutes indicated the compressor was attempting to start but struggling. The temporary cooling after dust removal suggested an overheating component that briefly recovered before failing again.

GE washer (GTW330ASK4WW) — Waynesburg, OH

Reported: The customer reported that their GE washer powers on and fills water but will not wash, drain or spin. The machine was completely unable to agitate or complete any wash cycles.

Diagnosis: The gearbox on the washing machine was leaking oil. This softened the belt and caused it to fall off. To repair it properly, it would be best to replace the transmission.

Samsung dryer (DV45H7000EW/A2 02) — Waynesburg, OH

Reported: The customer reported that their 4 year old Samsung electric dryer was only cycling with cold air. The dryer would run through its cycles but wasn’t producing any heat to dry the clothes.

Diagnosis: Testing revealed multiple heating system failures in this Samsung dryer. The heat element, high limit thermal fuse, and cycling thermostat had all failed, preventing the unit from generating heat during operation.
