Carrying On for Carroll County: After D&D TV & Appliance Closed

For thirty-five years, when something quit working in a Carroll County kitchen or laundry room, a lot of families knew exactly who to call: D&D TV & Appliance in Carrollton. It started in 1987 as two names over one door — Don Parker and Dan Ries combined their first names into “D&D” and opened on Public Square, reportedly in a foot of snow. Don’s son Tom Parker joined the partnership about a decade later, the store moved to its longtime home on Canton Road NW in 2000, and for a generation D&D was simply part of how the county ran.

That chapter closed at the end of 2022. After the loss of their longtime serviceman, Dave Walter, in early 2022, and then co-owner Tom Parker later that summer, the doors shut for good. In a fitting twist, the old building on Canton Road found new life in 2026 as the U.S. headquarters of Dango & Dienenthal — another “D&D,” the same initials over the same door.

But the appliances those families bought from D&D didn’t stop running when the store closed. The Speed Queen washers built to last decades, the Whirlpool and Maytag sets, the refrigerators and ranges — they’re all still out there in homes around Carrollton, Lake Mohawk, Malvern, and the lake communities. And eventually, every one of them needs service.

When Dave Walter passed in early 2022, those service calls still had to be answered — and Louisville Appliance Repair’s Sam Willhite is the technician who answered a lot of them.
