Whirlpool Washer Repair (Model GHW915OPW0) – Massillon, OH

A customer in Massillon called about their Whirlpool washer spinning violently and throwing error codes. When we opened up the GHW915OPW0, we found what we expected — four blown shock absorbers and a damaged wire that was triggering the fault warnings.

The Problem

The washer would start normally but then shake the entire laundry room during the spin cycle. The display kept showing F or H error codes, and the unit would stop mid-cycle. The customer said it had been getting progressively worse over the past few weeks.

Diagnosis

All four shock absorbers had failed, allowing the drum to move freely inside the cabinet. When shocks go bad on this model, the excessive movement triggers the unbalanced load sensor, which throws the F/H codes and shuts down the cycle for safety. We also found a damaged wire connection that was intermittently losing contact during the violent shaking.

The Repair

  • Parts replaced: WP8182703 — four shock absorbers, WPW10467289 — wire sensor repair
  • Work performed: Removed drum assembly, installed new shock absorbers, repaired damaged wire connection
  • Result: Ran full wash and spin cycles with no movement or error codes

Is It Worth Repairing?

This Whirlpool model is built solid and typically runs 12-15 years with proper maintenance. Shock replacement is a common repair around the 8-10 year mark. Since the motor, transmission, and controls are all still good, this repair should give you several more years of reliable service.

Maintenance Tips for Whirlpool Washers

  • Check shock absorbers annually by pushing down on the drum — it should barely move when the washer is off
  • Don’t overload the washer beyond the manufacturer’s capacity — this model handles about 3.8 cubic feet
  • Run the clean washer cycle monthly with Whirlpool’s affresh tablets to prevent buildup that can cause unbalanced loads
