We recently serviced an LG refrigerator in North Canton, OH where the freezer wasn’t freezing overnight and nothing was frozen by morning. The customer also noticed the freezer door wasn’t sealing properly. What we found was multiple ice maker issues creating a cascading problem that prevented proper door closure.
The Problem
The customer reported that their LG refrigerator freezer wasn’t freezing overnight, with nothing frozen by morning. They also noticed the freezer door appeared not to be sealing or suctioning properly.
Diagnosis
The unit wasn’t cooling properly, and the freezer door wasn’t closing all the way. Neither ice maker had been functional for some time. I found an ice pad under the main basket keeping the freezer door from closing. The frost pattern was good on the freezer evaporator. The craft ice maker in the freezer had a silicone clip misplaced and wasn’t closing properly, causing it to overflow and spray water into the upper fan ice maker channels in the freezer. The Kraft ice maker wasn’t closing all the way and was leaking water.
The Repair
- Parts replaced: AEQ73449909 — Kraft ice maker
- Work performed: Replaced the Kraft ice maker
- Result: Good to go
Is It Worth Repairing?
LG refrigerators are generally well-built appliances, and the LRFVC2406S is a higher-end model with dual ice makers. When ice maker problems cause cooling issues like this, replacing the faulty component typically restores full function and prevents further damage to the cooling system.
Maintenance Tips for LG Refrigerators
- Check ice maker fill cups and dispensing mechanisms monthly — LG’s dual ice maker systems require regular attention to prevent overflow issues
- Clean the door seals quarterly, paying special attention to areas where ice buildup could prevent proper closure
- Replace water filters every 6 months to maintain proper ice maker function and prevent mineral buildup in LG’s craft ice system
