We responded to a service call on Market Ave N in Canton, OH for an LG refrigerator with intermittent power issues. The customer reported that the refrigerator/freezer intermittently turns off, the front control panel goes out and shows ER, and the interior light has not worked for a while.
The Problem
The LG LFX25960ST refrigerator was experiencing multiple electrical issues. The control panel would intermittently shut off and display an error code, while the interior fresh food light remained inoperative. The customer was unclear on the specific error code but mentioned it would reappear periodically.
Diagnosis
Fresh food light was inoperative and appeared to be a board issue. The light briefly flickered when pressing and depressing the light switches. There was some ice buildup around the icemaker fan in the freezer compartment as well as a solid block of ice about where you would expect to find an ice ball with a sealed system failure. This unit did have a good frost pattern currently. Freezer and icemaker fans were both operating. I verified that the ERFF code does show up when disconnecting the fans.
The Repair
- Parts replaced: No parts replaced
- Work performed: Diagnostic evaluation completed
- Result: Board no longer available from manufacturer
Is It Worth Repairing?
With the control board no longer available and multiple system issues present, this LG refrigerator may not be economical to repair. The combination of electrical problems and potential sealed system concerns makes replacement the more practical option for most homeowners.
Maintenance Tips for LG Refrigerators
- Keep the condenser coils clean to prevent electrical component overheating
- Monitor for ice buildup around fans and address airflow blockages promptly
- Document error codes when they appear to help technicians diagnose intermittent issues
