Frigidaire Refrigerator Repair – Salem, OH (GRFS2853AF2)

A Salem, OH customer called about their Frigidaire refrigerator not cooling with water on the floor from the front ice/water dispenser and freezer contents fully thawed. What looked like a major refrigeration failure turned out to be something much simpler — the unit was stuck in Demo mode.

The Problem

The customer reported their refrigerator was not cooling, with water on the floor from the front ice/water dispenser and freezer contents fully thawed. They sent a photo of the dispenser control panel that revealed the issue immediately.

Diagnosis

The unit was in Demo/Showroom mode. The customer-submitted photo of the dispenser UI showed “Demo” indicator illuminated with blue text on the right side of the panel, next to Reset Air Filters. The display and dispenser operate normally in this mode but the compressor/sealed system does not run — which explains both the warm freezer and the dispenser leak as residual ice melted and water ran out the chute.

The Repair

  • Parts replaced: No parts replaced
  • Work performed: Remote diagnosis and repair. Walked customer through the exit sequence per service manual: Hold the Freezer (+) button on the LEFT and the Fresh Food (-) button on the RIGHT simultaneously for 10 seconds. On this UI: left “+” under Freeze Boost, and right “-” next to the Demo indicator / above Reset Air Filters.
  • Result: Confirmed cooling restored same evening. No truck roll required.

Is It Worth Repairing?

This Frigidaire model is worth maintaining when actual repairs are needed. Demo mode issues like this one require no parts and minimal labor, making them very cost-effective fixes. The GRFS2853AF2 is a reliable side-by-side unit that typically provides good service life with proper maintenance.

Maintenance Tips for Frigidaire Refrigerators

  • Check your control panel periodically for any unusual indicators or modes that may have been accidentally activated
  • Replace the water filter every 6 months to maintain proper dispenser function and prevent leaks
  • Keep the condenser coils clean underneath the unit to ensure efficient cooling performance
