A Samsung dryer on Louisville St NE in Louisville, OH was throwing an HC overheat error and refusing to heat. Samuel diagnosed a shorted cycling thermistor reading far outside specification, replaced it with a verified sensor, and confirmed full heat through a complete cycle with no returning error codes.
The Problem
Wondering if you can now help with my dryer which is throwing a code telling the dryer it’s overheating when there is no heat!
HC error.
The Repair
Unit displayed HC overheat error at power-up without starting a cycle; no heat in operation. Diagnosed shorted cycling thermistor — measured 394 ohms at initial visit and 590 ohms at return visit against a specification of 12.0k–13.0k ohms at 68°F, causing the control to read a false extreme overheat and lock out heater operation. Replaced thermistor with new sensor verified in specification at 10.14k ohms prior to install. Heater relay, element isolation, and thermal safeties all tested normal. Ran complete cycle; heat operated normally throughout, no error codes present.
