Whirlpool Washer Repair – Louisville, OH (LSR5132PQ0)
A Whirlpool washer on E Broad St in Louisville, OH was leaving laundry sitting in water with a buzzing noise every time the timer knob was pulled out to start. Samuel traced the problem to a failed start capacitor and a broken motor start switch, then replaced the drive motor assembly and capacitor to bring the machine back to full operation.
The Problem
Buzzing noise when knob is pulled out to start
The Repair
Complaint: buzzing when timer knob pulled to start, no agitate or spin. Found motor hums in both directions and only takes off when hand-spun. Tested start capacitor 661606/WP8572717 – open. Inspected motor start (centrifugal) switch 3952056 – physically broken; switch no longer available separately. Start winding checked at motor plug pin 3 (Y) to pin 5 (W-BK): 7.9 ohms, OK. Motor hand-spins freely both directions; gearcase and coupling OK.
Repair: replaced main drive motor with WP661600 (includes start switch) and replaced start capacitor with WP8572717 (tested 220 µF, in spec). Ran unit through a cycle: fills, agitates, drains and spins normally, starts on its own in both directions with no hum. Repair complete.
Parts used: WP661600 (motor drve), WP8572717 (capacitor)
