A Massillon customer called with multiple appliance issues: the dishwasher top rack was broken and needed a new track, the washer was loud and leaking from bottom with large loads, and the fridge had a broken shelf bracket with a non-working dispenser. What started as a multi-appliance service call ended up requiring two visits to complete all the repairs.
The Problem
The dishwasher top rack was broken and needed a new track. The washer was loud and leaking from bottom with large loads. The fridge had a broken shelf bracket and the dispenser didn’t work.
Diagnosis
On the first visit, we found the dishwasher needed both upper rack slides replaced. The refrigerator required a new shelf bracket on the lower shelf and a dispenser actuator replacement. The washing machine had failed bearings, but the customer decided to replace the entire unit rather than repair it.
The Repair
- Parts replaced: W11259786-TRACK, W11259785-TRACK, 240356501-TRACK, 240349701-TRACK (dishwasher upper rack slides), 240356501-TRACK (shelf bracket), 241685703-ACTUATOR LIGHTED BLACK/CLEAR (dispenser actuator), 241993101-SUPPORT-CRISPER CVR (crisper drawer slides)
- Work performed: Replaced both upper rack slides on dishwasher, replaced shelf bracket on lower shelf and dispenser actuator on refrigerator, installed crisper drawer slides on second visit
- Result: All appliances restored to proper function except washer, which customer chose to replace
Is It Worth Repairing?
Whirlpool appliances are generally worth repairing when they’re under 8-10 years old and the repair cost is reasonable. In this case, the dishwasher and refrigerator repairs were straightforward parts replacements that extended the life of both units. The washer’s failed bearings represented a more expensive repair, making replacement the better economic choice for this customer.
Maintenance Tips for Whirlpool Appliances
- Clean dishwasher tracks regularly to prevent debris buildup that can jam or damage the rack slides
- Don’t overload washing machines beyond their rated capacity to avoid excessive wear on bearings and seals
- Keep refrigerator shelves properly seated and avoid placing excessive weight on door dispensers
