A customer in East Rochester called about multiple appliances needing repair at their property. We found a mix of issues across several units — some worth fixing, others beyond economical repair.
The Problem
The customer had multiple appliances to repair across their farmhouse and barn locations. This included washers and dryers of various ages and conditions that needed evaluation and service.
Diagnosis
The washer in the farmhouse needed a rubber foot. The digital washer in the barn tested good but had one stored error code for long fill — this washer needs to have a hot and cold water supply since the computer utilizes both even if hot or cold is selected. The old direct drive washer needs a transmission which was too expensive to repair. The GE Dryer had a bad timer or motor and wasn’t worth repairing. The Maytag dryer needed several components replaced.
The Repair
- Parts replaced: 34318-FOOT RUBBER, Y303836-BLOWER WHE, 9703438-, 12001541-SUPPORT, 285753A-COUPLING, 285352-Seal-Oil, WP22001650-FASTENER
- Work performed: Installed rubber foot on farmhouse washer, replaced blower wheel, one support wheel and clip as well as one clip on the housing on Maytag dryer
- Result: Maytag dryer is good to go, digital washer tested good
Is It Worth Repairing?
Admiral washers from this era can be reliable when properly maintained, but transmission failures on older direct drive units often exceed the appliance’s remaining value. For multi-appliance situations like this, we prioritize repairs based on the unit’s condition and remaining useful life.
Maintenance Tips for Admiral Washers
- Ensure both hot and cold water supplies are connected on digital models — the computer requires both lines even for single-temperature washes
- Check rubber feet periodically for wear and replace when they become compressed or damaged
- Clear error codes promptly and address underlying causes like long fill times to prevent component strain
