A washer that won’t drain, won’t spin, leaks, or shakes the laundry room is almost always one of a short list of failures. Volume builds pattern recognition — we’ve seen these enough times to diagnose quickly.
Won’t drain
Clogged drain pump filter (front-load), failed drain pump, kinked or obstructed drain hose, or a lid/door switch fault preventing the spin cycle from engaging. Front-load washers commonly have debris caught in the pump impeller.
Won’t spin
Lid/door switch failure, broken drive belt, worn drive coupler (Whirlpool direct-drive), failed motor coupling, or transmission/clutch wear. Diagnostic verifies sensor inputs and motor function before parts.
Leaking water
Door boot/bellow tear (front-load), worn tub seal, pump or hose connection leak, valve failure, or overflow from drain hose siphoning. Source identification is the diagnostic — fixing the wrong component means a callback.
Shakes / loud banging
Worn suspension shocks (front-load), broken springs or struts, leveling problem, or worn drum bearings. Severe vibration during spin is almost always suspension; constant noise is bearings.
Stops mid-cycle
Sensing/lock/drain combination faults, control board failure, sensor (pressure switch, temperature, motor) failure, or wiring harness issue. Error code on the display narrows it quickly.
Error codes
F-series (Whirlpool/Maytag), nF/dE/UE/SUD (Samsung/LG), E20/E22/E40 (Frigidaire/Electrolux), and Bosch E-codes all map to specific failure modes. We diagnose against the platform’s service mode, not by guessing.
Bearing noise
Loud grinding or roaring during spin — outer-tub bearing failure. Common on front-load washers past 8 years. Repair is involved (full disassembly) but on Speed Queen and premium platforms it’s usually worth doing.
Odor / mildew
Front-load door boot mildew, drain pump filter buildup, biofilm in the dispenser drawer. Not always a repair issue — sometimes a maintenance issue. We diagnose to confirm.
