Common Oven & Range Problems We Service
Oven and range failures cluster around a few components: heating elements, igniters, control boards, and surface switches. Diagnostic identifies the root cause before parts.
Oven not heating
Electric: failed bake or broil element (visible break or no glow). Gas: igniter weak or failed (no spark, or weak spark not opening the gas valve), or safety valve failure. Diagnostic verifies element/igniter resistance and gas valve operation.
Temperature off / not reaching set
Temperature sensor (RTD probe) failure, control board calibration issue, or door seal failure letting heat escape. Calibration testing is part of the diagnostic.
Burner won’t ignite
Gas range: spark module failure, igniter failure (visible no-spark), debris in igniter port, or wiring fault. Most common is debris or igniter — both quick fixes. Multiple burners affected = spark module.
Surface element won’t heat (electric)
Element failure, surface switch (infinite switch) failure, burner socket/receptacle wear, or wiring issue. Coil-element ranges are different diagnostics than radiant glass tops.
Error codes (F-codes)
F1-F9 codes on Whirlpool/Maytag/KitchenAid map to specific failures: keypad, sensor, latch, EEPROM. Bosch/Thermador E-codes are different. Code reading is the diagnostic start.
Self-clean door locked / won’t unlock
Door lock motor failure, wax-motor stuck, or control board issue. Common after self-clean cycle gone wrong. Repair is straightforward but requires control-board reset on some platforms.
Convection fan failure
Failed convection motor, broken fan blade, or relay failure on the control board. On Bosch and KitchenAid premium ranges, convection-related failures are a known wear point.
Control panel / clock issues
Display flickering, dead, or showing wrong info. Usually clock-control board (ERC) failure. Replacement is straightforward on most platforms; we diagnose to isolate.
