We received a call from a Canton homeowner whose Maytag Neptune washer fills with water but does not drain or spin. The customer had just received the machine from a friend and discovered it wasn’t working properly. Our diagnosis revealed a severely clogged drain system.

The Problem

Diagnosis

The drain pump was plugged up with nylon backing off of a rug or cat litter or something like that. A good part of the drain hose itself was also plugged, preventing proper water evacuation from the machine.

• Work performed: Removed the back panel from the washer, pulled the drain pump, removed the drain hose and cleared it all out. Ran water through it with a garden hose to ensure it was unobstructed.
• Result: Successfully ran several test cycles with the wash machine, including filling and draining

The Maytag Neptune series had some known issues, but when properly maintained, these front-loading washers can provide years of reliable service. This particular unit has somewhat noisy bearings that will eventually need attention, but the current drain repair should keep it running well for now.
