Samuel recently visited a home on Aetna St in Salem, OH, to take a look at a Crosley washer that had stopped mid-cycle and left the drum full of water. The customer had tried restarting the machine in several modes and even attempted a motor reset, but nothing responded when the knob was pulled. Samuel diagnosed a failed lid switch and replaced the part, returning the washer to normal operation.
The Problem
The washer stopped in a cycle. It’s full of water. I tried to restart in several modes but nothing happens when button is pulled. The knob had finished rotating around. I tried the motor reset.
The Repair
The lid switch had failed. This prevents it from operating in the spin cycle. When it spins it drains so it would not drain either. The lid switch on this machine is located under the top cover on the right side of the door. You have to flip the console up, pop the two clips out that hold the cover on and lean the cover forward. The lid switch can then be replaced from underneath the cover.
