A customer on Western Avenue in Alliance called about their Amana dryer that would start up, run about 20 seconds, and cut off. When we arrived for diagnosis, we found the dryer motor had failed and was no longer available for replacement.
The Problem
The dryer would start up and run for approximately 20 seconds before cutting off completely. This cycle would repeat each time the customer attempted to use the unit.
Diagnosis
Upon inspection of the Amana ALE331RAW, we determined that the dryer motor had failed. Unfortunately, replacement motors for this model are no longer available from the manufacturer or aftermarket suppliers.
The Repair
- Parts replaced: None — motor no longer available
- Work performed: Diagnostic evaluation
- Result: Unit determined unrepairable due to parts availability
Is It Worth Repairing?
When essential components like motors become unavailable, repair is no longer an option regardless of the unit’s age or condition. This is unfortunately common with older Amana models where manufacturer support has been discontinued.
Maintenance Tips for Amana Dryers
- Clean the lint filter after every load to prevent motor strain
- Check and clean the exhaust vent annually to maintain proper airflow
- Avoid overloading the drum, which can cause excessive wear on the motor
