A customer in North Canton called about their LG dryer that was shutting off way before clothes and towels were dry. The unit was heating up but turning off too early, requiring multiple restart cycles to complete drying. Our diagnosis revealed the real culprit wasn’t the dryer itself.
The Problem
The customer reported that their dryer shuts off way before clothes/towels are dry. It’s heating up but turns off too early and they have to keep hitting the power and start buttons for at least 4+ cycles before clothes are actually dry.
Diagnosis
Upon inspection, we found that the dryer vent was restricted. When airflow is blocked, the dryer’s moisture sensors can’t function properly, causing the unit to cycle prematurely even though clothes remain damp.
The Repair
- Parts replaced: No parts needed
- Work performed: Identified restricted dryer vent as the root cause
- Result: Referred customer to Dryer Vent Wizard of East Ohio for professional vent cleaning
Is It Worth Repairing?
LG dryers are generally reliable appliances, and this particular issue wasn’t actually a dryer malfunction. Since no internal components were faulty and only vent cleaning was needed, this was an excellent outcome for the customer — no expensive parts or dryer repair required.
Maintenance Tips for LG Dryers
- Clean the lint screen after every load to maintain proper airflow
- Have your dryer vent professionally cleaned annually to prevent restrictions
- Check that the outdoor vent hood opens freely when the dryer is running
