Diagnosis: Upon arrival, we found the dryer function was fine. The real culprit was discovered behind the unit — it was partly unplugged. The loose electrical connection prevented the dryer from receiving full power, which would cause poor drying performance that could easily be mistaken for a heating element failure.

It had been about a week since it ran last. They had problems in the past if they tried to run two loads back to back, or too quickly together, and suspected a small leak was causing the issue. The dishwasher wouldn’t run regardless of how much time it was given to dry, and turning the breaker off for an hour didn’t work either.

Diagnosis: We found that the float for the float switch was filled with dirt. This debris prevented the float from operating properly, causing the error code 001 to trigger. The accumulated dirt was interfering with the dishwasher’s ability to detect water levels correctly.

Diagnosis: Testing revealed the circulation/wash pump motor assembly had burned out. Without a functioning pump, water couldn’t circulate through the spray arms to clean the dishes effectively.

Diagnosis: We identified a plugged defrost drain as the root cause. When the defrost drain gets blocked, water from the defrost cycle can’t flow out properly and instead backs up into the refrigerator compartment, pooling under the bottom drawer where it freezes.

Reported: The customer reported that their washer would overflow. Upon inspection, we discovered the hose leading to the pressure sensor had been eaten by mice.

Diagnosis: The pressure sensor hose monitors water levels in the tub. When rodents damaged this hose, the sensor could no longer accurately detect water levels, causing the washer to continue filling beyond capacity and overflow.

Whirlpool washer (WTW5640XW3) — Carrollton, OH

Diagnosis: Our inspection found that both the transmission and shift actuator have failed. These are critical components that control the washer’s agitation and spin functions, and their simultaneous failure prevents proper water extraction.

Reported: The refrigerator stopped working after power surge. The customer needed documentation for their insurance company and had already made the decision to replace the refrigerator rather than repair it.

Admiral Washer; dryer (30 LBS) — Louisville, OH

Reported: The facility reported that Dexter 27 had no water on rinse. Additionally, they had 2 timers waiting in the back room on the desk ready for install on other units in their commercial laundry setup.

Diagnosis: We found multiple issues across the equipment. On washer #2, the drain hose had come disconnected. Units 30 and 31 needed the timer replacements that were waiting. Most significantly, Dexter 27’s cold water valve had failed – this was one that had been installed recently and appeared to be a cheap valve replacement.

Reported: The customer reported that the knob to select cycle fell off. They couldn’t get it back on to select what heating cycle, so the dryer wouldn’t work. A small piece of knob shaft broke off.

Diagnosis: The timer shaft had broken, leaving the cycle selection knob unable to attach properly. Without the knob secured to the shaft, there was no way to select heating cycles or operate the dryer.

Diagnosis: Fresh food evaporator was iced over. Fan was good, Heater and defrost termination thermostat passed good. Defrost thermister showed 98 degrees despite being encased in ice. The faulty thermister was preventing proper defrost cycles, causing excessive ice buildup that interfered with fan operation.

KitchenAid refrigerator (KFIS20XVMS11) — North Canton, OH

Reported: Ice forms under the bottom drawers of the freezer and then melts and drips on the floor. The customer wasn’t sure where the moisture that forms the ice was coming from and had to chip out the ice about once a week to prevent getting water dripping on the floor.

Diagnosis: The drain line in this KitchenAid refrigerator was clogged, preventing proper drainage of defrost water. When the automatic defrost cycle runs, the melted water has nowhere to go and refreezes under the freezer drawers instead of draining away properly.

Whirlpool dryer (WHD5090GW0) — Salem, OH

Reported: The customer reported their dryer won’t power on and just errors out. The unit was completely unresponsive to normal operation attempts.

Diagnosis: The dryer displayed an F03 error code during our testing. We tested the temperature sensor, which checked out good, confirming the control board as the root cause of the power and error issues.

Maytag washer (MTW6500TQ0) — Salem, OH

Reported: The customer reported: I have new shock absorbers, i tried to fix myself but I can’t get the the top off. During our initial visit, we discovered the customer had new tub suspension components, but they were the wrong ones. The washer was making banging noise when it would try to spin.

Diagnosis: We checked error codes and found F51. After resetting the system, the washer was spinning properly. However, on a follow-up visit, the problem came back. We attempted to resolve the issue using an RPS sensor kit with new harness but were unable to achieve a permanent fix.
