A Whirlpool washer on Graham Drive in Louisville was only cycling to the wash but would not spin or rinse, staying stuck at those cycles. The customer had tried a factory reset which worked temporarily before the problem returned. Our diagnosis revealed a failing main control board throwing an F3E2 power error.
The Problem
The customer reported that the washer only cycles to the wash but does not spin or rinse. It just stays stuck at those cycles. The unit would agitate during the wash cycle, so it didn’t seem to be the belt. The customer had followed the factory reset of holding the start button in until the display clears, which worked for a few cycles and then right back to the same issue. The washer was just over 1 year old.
Diagnosis
Testing revealed the main control board was generating a power F3E2 error. This error code indicates the control board is not receiving or processing power signals correctly, causing the washer to hang at specific cycle points rather than advancing through the complete wash sequence.
The Repair
- Parts replaced: W11603810 — Board
- Work performed: Replaced main board
- Result: Good to go
Is It Worth Repairing?
For a Whirlpool washer just over one year old, replacing the main control board is definitely worthwhile. These machines typically last 10-12 years with proper maintenance, and a board failure this early is likely covered under warranty. The control board is the “brain” of the washer, so replacing it essentially gives you a fresh start.
Maintenance Tips for Whirlpool Washers
- Clean the washer monthly using Whirlpool’s Affresh tablets or run a Clean Washer cycle to prevent buildup
- Leave the door slightly open after use to allow moisture to evaporate and prevent mold growth
- Check and clean the drain pump filter every few months to prevent clogs that can stress the control system
