The Problem
Washer shuts off during spin cycle and leaves water in tub; making unusual noise
The Repair
GE front-load washer (GFW850SSN1WW) was stopping mid-cycle with phantom drain pump activity. Diagnosed a failing drain pump — pump was attempting to run but couldn’t clear water from the tub, which tripped the F18 drain fault and cascaded into the out-of-balance and water-accessibility codes. Replaced the drain pump and installed all available firmware updates through the manufacturer’s diagnostic system. Washer drains and completes cycles normally.
Parts replaced: WH11X39237 (drain pump & filter).
