On a service call to Canton, OH, Samuel Willhite diagnosed a GE bottom-freezer refrigerator (model GBE21DSKPRSS) that kept icing up at the evaporator coils despite working fine for a month or two after each manual defrost. The root cause turned out to be a failed main control board that was sending no power to the defrost heater, and the repair was completed the same visit.
The Problem
Bottom freezer ( frost free) is icing up at back of freezer and coils. Works great for month or two after I manually defrost it then process starts again. Was told it could be a clogged hose/drainage tube but I don’t have proper tools to trouble it
The Repair
Freezer evaporator completely frosted over. Can activate defrost in smart hq but no peer going to heater. Heater does have proper resistance. Replaced main board. Verified 3.3 amp draw on heater harness in test mode. Good to go.
