On a service call to Canton, OH, Samuel Willhite diagnosed a Whirlpool top-load washer (model WTW5057LW0) that was running sporadically and refusing to complete its cycle. A hair pin lodged in the drain pump was blocking drainage, and no parts were needed to resolve the immediate obstruction.

Found hair pin in drain pump. In diagnostic test unit will fill through hot and cold valves, wash and spin. It is not currently draining. Drain pump was still pretty hot after I remove the hairpin. It may function normally after it cools off. If not, it will be necessary to replace the drain pump.
