Whirlpool Range Repair – Hartville, OH (WEG745H0FS0)

On a service call to Duquette Ave NE in Hartville, OH, Samuel Willhite evaluated a Whirlpool propane range (model WEG745H0FS0) that had been producing tall orange flames and heavy soot for roughly two years. After pressure testing and inspecting all burners, the range itself checked out fine. The issue traced back to the upstream propane supply setup, not the appliance.

The Problem

Propane-converted range producing tall orange flames and heavy soot on pots — air-to-fuel mixture likely needs adjustment on surface burners, possibly oven/broiler as well

The Repair

Complaint: Soot and yellow burner flames, ongoing ~2 years.

Findings: Range operates correctly. Manifold gas pressure verified at 10–11” WC (spec 10” WC LP). All burners fire clean with full load applied. No fault found at the appliance.

Probable cause is upstream gas supply/regulation. Unit is fed by a single regulator at the propane tank approx. 75–100 ft from the house — standard LP installs use two-stage regulation (first-stage at tank, second-stage at house). Symptom onset coincides with relocation of tank and new gas line run ~2 years ago.

Recommendation: Customer to contact propane company to evaluate regulation setup and line sizing on the house-side install. No repair needed at the range.
