A GE top-load washer on McDowell St NE in Canton, OH had completely stopped responding, no power, no display, nothing. Samuel traced the issue to a failed lid lock, out-of-balance faults logged in the machine’s history, and firmware that needed updating. After the firmware update, lid lock replacement, and belt replacement, the washer completed a full cycle and reached high-speed spin cleanly.
The Problem
Washer wont power on or respond.
The Repair
Work performed: Applied the dual-image firmware update (both payloads: Main Board Application 284 KB + Parametric 80 KB), replaced the lid lock assembly, and replaced the belt.
Parts replaced: WH08X37938 (lid lock); WH01X24180 (drive belt).
Faults addressed:
• F23 (Critical Lid Lock Failure: Can’t Lock Lid) — was the active fault, 639 cycles, 4 days ago. Resolved by lid lock replacement.
• F26 ×10 (Out of Balance, Ended Final Spin) and F31 ×6 (Out of Balance fallback) — belt replacement plus the firmware’s OOB handling improvements cleared this up.
• The firmware also adds the F3 soak-and-resume behavior and improved diagnostics, so future phantom locked-rotor faults are less likely.
Verification: No out-of-balance error, reached high-speed spin cleanly.
