When a GE appliance acts up, one of the smartest things you can do before paying for a repair is check whether it's still under warranty. The catch: most people have no idea how old their appliance actually is, and the receipt is long gone. Here's the good news — you can find out in seconds, right from the serial number.
We built a free GE serial number lookup that decodes the manufacture date and gives you a read on warranty status. And if it turns out you do need service, Louisville Appliance Repair is a GE factory-authorized servicer in Stark County — we can even handle the warranty authorization for you.
How GE warranties generally work
GE warranties aren't one-size-fits-all, which is exactly why they confuse people. The general structure looks like this:
Year one: parts and labor
Nearly every GE appliance comes with a one-year limited warranty covering parts and labor from the purchase date. Under a year old? There's a strong chance the repair is covered.
Some parts last much longer
On many Café and GE Profile refrigerators, the sealed cooling system can be covered up to five years. Certain GE washer motors carry coverage up to ten. So even an older unit can be covered for the right failure.
No receipt? Still fine
If you can't find proof of purchase, GE can use the serial number to determine the appliance's age and warranty status. That same number is what our lookup tool reads.

It's printed on the data plate — a small sticker or metal tag. Where to look depends on the appliance:
- Refrigerator: inside on a side wall, near the top, or along the door frame.
- Dishwasher: around the inner door opening or along the tub edge.
- Range or oven: on the back, behind a bottom drawer, or under a burner.
- Washer or dryer: inside the lid or door, or on the back panel.
A GE serial number is two letters followed by six numbers — the first letter is the month it was built and the second is the year. Drop it into the lookup tool and it does the math for you.
