On a service call to Waynesburg, OH, Samuel found a Whirlpool top-load washer throwing an LF fault and failing to fill properly. The root cause was a failed cold water inlet valve, with a missing or damaged inlet screen allowing rust and sediment into the valve. After replacing the valve and screen and flushing the supply lines, the washer filled and tested clean with no leaks.
The Problem
Washer code says LF.
And is not filling properly
The Repair
Cold water inlet valve failed — inlet screen missing/damaged, allowing rust and sediment from corroded cold supply into the valve, restricting fill and triggering LF (long fill) fault. Replaced water inlet valve (W11220230) and inlet screen (285452A), installed serviceable screens at household supply connections, flushed supply lines. Hot and cold fill tested clear, no leaks, pressure switch clear, drain pump and mechanicals verified good. Note: tub seal/drive bearing showing grease and water weep — unit is past 60% of service life and on the downhill slide; disclosed to customer, repair-vs-replace decision pending. Fill repair complete and verified.
Parts replaced: W11220230 (water valve); 285452A (screen).
