GE Washer Repair – Dover, OH (GTW485ASWWB)
Samuel was on a service call in Dover, OH for a GE top-load washer (model GTW485ASWWB) that was leaving clothes soaking wet at the end of the cycle. After running full service-mode diagnostics, the washer checked out fine. The root cause turned out to be detergent overdosing, not a mechanical failure.
The Problem
Not spinning
The Repair
Customer reported clothes left wet at end of cycle. Found customer using a full dispenser cup of detergent per load, causing excessive suds that limit spin performance. Advised customer to use no more than 1/3 of the dispenser cup, typically closer to 1 tablespoon, of HE detergent. No stored error codes and no software updates available. Ran service-mode diagnostics: fill test passed, with hot and cold valves filling to 7″ in 2:13. Spin test passed, ramping through 140 and 450 RPM to the 700 RPM max target with the basket tracking target speed and the lid locked. Agitate, drain, and lid lock also tested good. Unit operating to spec; no parts needed. Cause is customer usage (detergent overdosing), not a product failure.
