We responded to a commercial laundry setup in Canton, OH where the washer had power but no water flow and the dryer needed maintenance service. Both units were coin-operated and required pricing adjustments along with the mechanical repairs.
The Problem
The customer reported their Maytag washer had electrical power but wasn’t filling with water at all. The Dependable Care dryer was running but needed a tune-up service to address performance issues. Both machines were coin-operated units that needed the pricing increased to at least $1.25 per cycle from their current lower rates.
Diagnosis
Testing the washer revealed a failed lid switch assembly — the safety interlock that allows water flow when the lid is properly closed. Without a functioning lid switch, the washer’s control system prevents water from entering even though power reaches the unit. On the dryer, we found a worn lint screen and one deteriorated support roller that was causing noise and reduced efficiency during tumbling cycles.
The Repair
- Parts replaced: WP22001682 lid switch assembly, 12001541 support roller, WPY312959 belt, 33002970 lint filter
- Work performed: Installed new lid switch on washer, replaced worn support roller and lint screen on dryer, adjusted both coin mechanisms to $1.25 per cycle
- Result: Washer now fills properly when lid is closed, dryer runs quietly with improved airflow and clean lint filtration
Is It Worth Repairing?
Commercial Maytag Dependable Care units are built for heavy-duty use and typically justify repairs well into their service life. These models are designed for coin-op environments and parts remain readily available. The combination of mechanical repairs and pricing adjustments should provide improved revenue along with reliable operation.
Maintenance Tips for Maytag Commercial Dryers
- Replace lint screens every 6-12 months in commercial settings — clogged screens reduce efficiency and create fire hazards
- Check support rollers annually for wear, especially in high-volume operations where noise indicates bearing deterioration
- Clean coin mechanism slots monthly to prevent jamming and ensure accurate pricing collection
