We recently completed a washer repair in North Canton for an LG front-load washer making noise while draining. The customer reported that cycles and spins worked fine, but the draining process had become excessively loud. Our diagnosis revealed a broken wash circulation pump — an uncommon failure that was causing both the noise and pumping issues.
The Problem
The customer contacted us about their LG washer making noise while draining. Cycles and spins were functioning fine, but the drainage phase had developed an unusual and excessive noise problem.
Diagnosis
The wash circulation pump had broken on the washing machine. This is not a common failure in our experience. The motor would turn, but it was not pumping water and it was causing excessive noise. We also identified that the drain pump needed attention — a common failure on LG wash machines, so it was a good time to take care of it.
The Repair
- Parts replaced: EAU61383518-MOTOR ASSEM AC PUMP, 4681EA2001T-MOTOR ASSY
- Work performed: We disassembled the machine rather than laying it over and changing the drain pump from the bottom, as we have found that it works best to just disassemble the machine and take care of it properly
- Result: We also checked the drum bearings before attempting this repair to ensure that the machine will last for awhile
Is It Worth Repairing?
LG washers are generally reliable machines with good longevity when properly maintained. This WM2450HRA model was worth repairing, especially since we were able to address both the immediate circulation pump issue and the commonly-failing drain pump at the same time. Replacing both pumps during one service call provides better long-term value than waiting for the drain pump to fail separately.
Maintenance Tips for LG Washers
- Run a cleaning cycle monthly with LG’s recommended cleaner to prevent buildup in the wash circulation system
- Leave the door and detergent dispenser open after use to prevent moisture-related pump issues
- Check and clean the drain filter regularly to reduce strain on the drain pump motor assembly
