A customer in Minerva called about their Admiral stove – the top oven would not get hot. Our diagnosis found the broil element was only receiving 120v instead of the required voltage, pointing to a failed relay control board.
The Problem
The top oven will not get hot. The customer could use other functions on the stove, but the upper oven compartment remained cold even when set to heating modes.
Diagnosis
Testing revealed the broil element has only 120v to it. This insufficient voltage indicated a problem with the relay control board, which regulates power delivery to the oven’s heating elements. We ordered a new relay control board to restore proper operation.
The Repair

Is It Worth Repairing?
Admiral stoves are generally reliable appliances, and control board failures are repairable issues that can extend the unit’s life significantly. For most Admiral ranges, replacing a relay control board is a worthwhile repair that restores full functionality.
Maintenance Tips for Admiral Stoves
- Keep oven vents clear of grease buildup to prevent overheating that can damage control boards
- Avoid slamming oven doors, which can jar electrical connections loose over time
- Clean spills promptly to prevent moisture from affecting electrical components
