We received a call from an Akron customer about their Admiral oven’s broiler acting up. The low setting never comes on — igniter clicks and then it shuts off and repeats cycle, while the hi setting comes on and goes much hotter than normal. After inspection, we found the broil features are actually operating correctly.
The Problem
This 3-year-old Admiral oven has a two-stage broiler with Hi-Low settings. The customer reported that the low setting never comes on, with the igniter clicking then shutting off in a repeating cycle. Meanwhile, the hi setting comes on and goes much hotter than normal.
Diagnosis
After testing the broiler functions, we determined that for the low broil setting the oven just cycles the broil burner on and off. This is normal operation for this model. The broil features appear to be operating correctly currently.
The Repair
- Parts replaced: No parts needed
- Work performed: Diagnosed broiler operation and confirmed normal function
- Result: Customer educated on proper low broil cycling behavior
Is It Worth Repairing?
At only 3 years old, this Admiral oven is well worth maintaining. Most ovens should provide 15-20 years of reliable service with proper care. Since this turned out to be normal operation rather than a malfunction, the customer can continue using their appliance with confidence.
Maintenance Tips for Admiral Ovens
- Clean the oven interior regularly to prevent grease buildup that can affect broiler performance
- Check broiler pan and grid for proper positioning during use
- Wipe down the oven door seals to maintain proper heat retention
