Admiral Refrigerator Repair – AKRON, OH (PFSS6PKW/PFSF6PKW)

A customer in Akron called about their Admiral refrigerator with water and ice problems — the ice maker made very few cubes per day and the water dispenser released water very slowly. We found a plugged defrost drain and an ice maker that wasn’t filling properly with water.

The Problem

The customer reported that water and ice were not working properly. The freezer made very few cubes per day but did slowly make ice cubes. The water dispenser released water very slowly, much slower than other water-in-door models. Water had collected and frozen on the bottom of the top mount refrigerator compartment.

Diagnosis

This turned out to be a Samsung fridge branded as GE. We found a plugged defrost drain in the fresh food compartment causing the water collection and freezing. The ice maker wasn’t filling all the way with water, requiring further investigation and a return visit to complete the repair.

The Repair

  • Parts replaced: DA97-05422A ice maker assembly kit and 242193206 refrigerator door gasket
  • Work performed: Cleared plugged defrost drain in fresh food compartment, installed new ice maker, and drilled larger hole in water valve
  • Result: Ice production and water flow restored to normal operation

Is It Worth Repairing?

Admiral refrigerators, particularly those manufactured by Samsung, are generally reliable appliances worth repairing when they’re under 10-12 years old. Ice maker and water system issues like this are common repair items that extend the refrigerator’s useful life significantly when addressed properly.

Maintenance Tips for Admiral Refrigerators

  • Replace water filter every 6 months to maintain proper flow rates in water and ice systems
  • Clean defrost drain quarterly by flushing with warm water to prevent blockages
  • Check door gaskets regularly for tears or warping that can affect temperature control
