A commercial laundry facility on North Chapel Street in Louisville called about multiple washer and dryer issues — units not starting, intermittent heat problems, and water leaking from a soap dispenser. Our inspection revealed everything from loose wiring to socks jamming the drainage system.
The Problem
The customer reported dryer 13 wouldn’t start, washer 45 had water coming out along the underside of the soap dispenser, and dryers 1, 5, 6, and 14 had intermittent no heat issues. Multiple units in this commercial laundry setup were experiencing problems simultaneously.
Diagnosis
Dryer 13 had a wire pulled off the start switch. Washer 45 had socks stuck in the drum against the dispenser hose, causing water to back up and overflow in the dispenser. The bearings in washer 45 were also failing — the drum was quite loose and didn’t sound good. Dryer 12 wouldn’t power on due to a loose connection on the timer. Dryer 14 was making scrubbing noises because the door was pushing the door switch into the drum.
The Repair
- Parts replaced: Commercial laundry repair service
- Work performed: Reconnected wire on dryer 13 start switch, removed socks from washer 45 drum, tightened timer connection on dryer 12, tweaked dryer 14 door alignment
- Result: Dryer 13 operational, dryer 12 powering on, dryer 14 no longer making noise, washer 45 taken out of service due to bearing failure
Is It Worth Repairing?
Admiral commercial washers and dryers are built for heavy-duty use, but when bearings fail like in washer 45, replacement often makes more financial sense than repair. The other units were worth fixing since the issues were minor electrical problems that didn’t require expensive parts.
Maintenance Tips for Admiral Commercial Washers and Dryers
- Check pockets thoroughly before washing to prevent small items like socks from jamming drainage systems
- Inspect electrical connections regularly in commercial settings where vibration can loosen wiring
- Listen for unusual bearing noises and address them early before drum damage occurs
