A commercial laundromat in Louisville called us for multiple Dexter washer and dryer issues affecting several units. We found timer motor failures, loose door magnets, and hot water supply problems across the facility.
The Problem
The laundromat owner reported several issues: Dryer 17 runs forever once you put a quarter in, dryer 1 magnet on door came off, Wasco 30 sticks on rinse, Dexter 28 coin drop back attachment fell off, and hot water valve concerns on Dexters t600 and t900. Multiple units were down or malfunctioning.
Diagnosis
Our inspection revealed a timer motor failed on dryer 17, the door magnet had come loose on dryer 1, hot water supply was shut off affecting the Wasco 30 and the t600/t900 units, the coin drop attachment had fallen off unit 28, and a hose needed replacement on the t600. We also found a bolt sticking through the drum on dryer 15.
The Repair
- Parts replaced: Timer motor assembly, hose replacement
- Work performed: Replaced whole timer assembly with new from stock, riveted door magnet back on and checked others, reattached coin drop mechanism, replaced hose, turned hot water supply back on, removed bolt from dryer drum
- Result: All units returned to proper operation
Is It Worth Repairing?
Dexter commercial washers and dryers are built for heavy-duty laundromat use and typically have long service lives when properly maintained. These units justify repair costs through their commercial revenue generation, making most repairs economically viable for business owners.
Maintenance Tips for Dexter Commercial Units
- Check door magnets regularly and tighten mounting hardware to prevent detachment
- Verify hot water supply valves remain open and functional for proper wash cycles
- Inspect coin mechanisms monthly and ensure mounting hardware stays secure
