Dexter Dryer Repair – Louisville, OH (30 lbs)

We returned to a commercial laundry facility on North Chapel Street in Louisville, OH for a Dexter 30-pound dryer that still had no heat after a recent ignitor replacement. The customer reported that dryer #8 wasn’t heating and their usual trick of unplugging it to get it to fire up wasn’t working anymore.

The Problem

Dryer #8 that had the ignitor replaced was still getting no heat. Usually the customer could unplug to get it to fire up but doing that had not worked.

Diagnosis

The pilot light wasn’t burning hot enough. I noticed it when I replaced the controller but it was lighting at that point. The weak pilot flame wasn’t generating sufficient heat for proper dryer operation.

The Repair

  • Parts replaced: 9425-068-002 — pilot orifice
  • Work performed: Replaced the pilot orifice with one from customer stock
  • Result: Pilot light now burns with proper flame intensity

Is It Worth Repairing?

Dexter commercial dryers are built for heavy-duty laundromat use and typically justify repairs well into their operational life. These units are designed for continuous operation and high-volume loads, making component replacements like pilot orifices a routine maintenance expense rather than a sign of impending failure.

Maintenance Tips for Dexter Dryers

  • Monitor pilot flame color and intensity during routine inspections — a weak blue flame indicates orifice problems
  • Keep spare pilot orifices in stock for commercial operations to minimize downtime
  • Check gas connections and pressure regularly on commercial gas dryers
