Admiral Washer; Dryer Repair – Louisville, OH (Commercial)

We got called to a commercial laundromat on North Chapel Street in Louisville, OH for multiple machine issues. The owner had three Admiral dryers not heating and a Wascomat washer that wouldn’t start after a timer replacement.

The Problem

Dryer 1 not heating, part will be in back room. Dryer 6 not heating. Dryer 12 not heating. Wascomat 30 that had timer replaced won’t start, almost seems like it’s getting no power.

Diagnosis

Dryer 1 had a failed cycling thermostat. Dryer 6’s shield on motor dropped into motor shafts and cut the shafts through. Dryer 12 needed a new ignitor control box. The Wascomat 30 coin slide takes two pushes/drops — it had one push on it and just needed another $1.50.

The Repair

  • Parts replaced: Cycling thermostat (Dryer 1), ignitor control box (Dryer 12), coin mechanism adjustment (Wascomat 30)
  • Work performed: Replaced cycling thermostat, replaced ignitor control box, adjusted coin slide mechanism
  • Result: Dryer 1 and 12 restored to heating operation, Wascomat 30 accepting proper coin drops

Is It Worth Repairing?

Commercial Admiral equipment is built for heavy-duty use and generally worth repairing when individual components fail. The motor damage on Dryer 6 requires more evaluation — shaft cutting typically means motor replacement, which could approach the cost of a used replacement unit for older commercial dryers.

Maintenance Tips for Admiral Commercial Washers and Dryers

  • Check motor shields regularly on dryers — ensure they’re properly secured to prevent dropping into moving parts
  • Clean lint from cycling thermostats monthly to prevent overheating and premature failure
  • Test coin mechanisms weekly and keep spare coin slide parts on hand for quick fixes
