Kenmore Dryer Repair (Model 110.63012102) – Massillon, OH

A Kenmore dryer in Massillon stopped producing heat, leaving a family with wet clothes and no way to finish their laundry. Our diagnostic revealed failed thermostats and a burnt-out heating element — a common failure pattern in this model series.

The Problem

The dryer was running through complete cycles but clothes came out just as wet as when they went in. No heat was being generated despite the drum turning and air circulating normally. The customer had already checked the lint filter and verified the circuit breaker was functioning.

Diagnosis

Testing revealed both the high-limit and operating thermostats had failed in the open position, preventing the heating element from receiving power. When we bypassed the thermostats for testing, the heating element itself showed no continuity — it had burned out completely. This dual failure typically happens when lint buildup causes overheating, triggering the safety thermostats repeatedly until they fail.

The Repair

  • Parts replaced: 279769 high-limit thermostat, WP3387134 operating thermostat, WP3387747 heating element
  • Work performed: Removed old thermostats and heating element assembly, installed new components, cleared lint buildup from housing
  • Result: Dryer now reaches proper temperature within 10 minutes and maintains consistent heat throughout the cycle

Is It Worth Repairing?

This 2007 Kenmore (Whirlpool-manufactured) model was built during a solid production era and typically runs 15-18 years with proper maintenance. At around 17 years old, it’s near end-of-life, but the repair restores full functionality for several more years of reliable service.

Maintenance Tips for Kenmore Dryers

  • Clean the lint filter after every load — Kenmore models are particularly sensitive to restricted airflow
  • Check the exhaust vent outside your home quarterly for lint buildup or bird nests blocking the opening
  • Remove the lower front panel annually to vacuum lint from around the blower housing and heating element area
