A Samsung dryer in Alliance wasn’t heating, leaving clothes damp after full cycles. The drum spun normally and airflow seemed fine, but the heating element had failed completely. We replaced the heating assembly and a worn idler pulley to restore proper operation.
The Problem
The customer reported their Samsung DV42H5200EW/A3 dryer was spinning but producing no heat. Clothes were coming out damp even after extended dry cycles. The lint filter was clean and the exhaust vent had good airflow, so the heating system was the likely culprit.
Diagnosis
Testing confirmed the heating element assembly had an open circuit — no continuity across the terminals. The element coil had developed a break, preventing current flow. We also found the idler pulley showing wear that could cause belt slippage and premature failure if left unchecked.
The Repair
- Parts replaced: DC97-14486A — heating element assembly, DC93-00634A — idler pulley
- Work performed: Removed rear panel, disconnected wiring, installed new heating assembly and idler pulley, reconnected all connections
- Result: Dryer heated immediately on test cycle, reaching proper temperature within normal timeframe
Is It Worth Repairing?
This Samsung model from the mid-2010s is built solid and typically runs 12-15 years with proper care. A heating element failure at this age is normal wear, not a design flaw. The repair extends the dryer’s life significantly compared to replacement cost.
Maintenance Tips for Samsung Dryers
- Clean the moisture sensor bars inside the drum monthly with rubbing alcohol to maintain auto-dry accuracy
- Check the exhaust vent cap outside your home quarterly — Samsung dryers are sensitive to restricted airflow
- Run the “Vent Blockage Test” in the diagnostic menu annually to catch ventilation problems early
