Short answer: most KitchenAid major appliances come with one year of parts-and-labor coverage from the date of delivery — and KitchenAid layers real extra coverage on top for its premium lines: two full years on commercial-style ranges, built-in refrigerators and built-in ice makers, and five years on the sealed refrigeration system of its refrigerators and ice makers. Here's what's actually covered, how to check where yours stands, and what to do either way.
What KitchenAid's warranty actually covers
KitchenAid's current major-appliance limited warranty (Whirlpool Corporation document W11655295A) breaks down like this:
- Year one — parts and labor, all major appliances. For one year from the date of delivery, KitchenAid pays for factory-specified replacement parts and repair labor to correct defects in materials or workmanship.
- Two full years — parts and labor — on premium built-ins: commercial-style ranges, built-in refrigerators and built-in ice makers get a second year of complete coverage.
- Years two through five — the sealed refrigeration system, parts and labor: on refrigerators, built-in ice makers, and specialty & undercounter refrigerators, the sealed system (compressor, evaporator, condenser, dryer and connecting tubing) stays covered — including labor — through year five.
- Warranty service goes through KitchenAid's authorized service network, and proof of purchase is required; registration is not. KitchenAid's Owner Center keeps your purchase date on file if you register.
- Using an independent repair shop does not void the warranty. KitchenAid's own warranty document states that use of unauthorized service providers or non-genuine parts will not void the coverage.
One honest correction to something you'll read elsewhere: older KitchenAid dishwasher warranties carried extended coverage on the stainless tub and racks, and plenty of sites still repeat it. The current document doesn't include it — today's dishwashers carry the standard one-year coverage, so check the paperwork that came with your specific model rather than an old chart.
How to tell if yours is still covered
- Your receipt or delivery date. The warranty clocks start at delivery, so proof of purchase is the definitive answer — and you'll need it to claim warranty service.
- The manufacture date on the serial number. No receipt? Run the serial through our free KitchenAid serial number lookup — it reads the manufacture week and year off the tag. A refrigerator under five years old may still have sealed-system coverage; anything under a year may be in full coverage.
- KitchenAid's own records. If you registered the appliance, the Owner Center ties your model and serial to the purchase date on file.
If you're still under warranty
Warranty-paid repairs are arranged through KitchenAid's authorized service network — contact KitchenAid (or the retailer you bought from), and we'll happily point you in the right direction if you tell us what's going on. The sealed-system coverage is the one to remember: if a KitchenAid refrigerator stops cooling inside five years, have the sealed system checked before paying for anything — a compressor or evaporator failure in that window is KitchenAid's bill, parts and labor.
If you're out of warranty (where most people are)
Past the coverage windows, this is exactly what we do. Louisville Appliance Repair services KitchenAid across Stark County with OEM parts, and we'll give you an honest read on whether a repair makes sense before you spend a dime. KitchenAid builds premium machines that are well worth fixing — a drain pump, a door latch, an ice maker — and a single failed part is almost always far cheaper than replacing a built-in. See our appliance repair services, or schedule online.
Who actually does the warranty work? (The short version)
While KitchenAid is paying for parts and labor (the first year, the second year on commercial-style ranges and built-in refrigeration, and years two through five on refrigerator sealed systems), the work goes through KitchenAid's designated service network — we're not part of it and can't process those claims. Schedule it at service.kitchenaid.com or call 1-800-422-1230.

KitchenAid warranty questions
How long is the KitchenAid warranty?
One year of parts and labor from the date of delivery on major appliances. Commercial-style ranges, built-in refrigerators and built-in ice makers get two full years, and refrigerator sealed systems (compressor, evaporator, condenser, dryer, connecting tubing) are covered — parts and labor — through year five.
Is my KitchenAid refrigerator's compressor covered after the first year?
Very likely yes — the sealed refrigeration system, which includes the compressor, is covered with parts and labor from years two through five on KitchenAid refrigerators, built-in ice makers and undercounter refrigerators.
Does the KitchenAid dishwasher still have a 5-year tub and rack warranty?
Not in the current warranty document — that extended tub-and-rack coverage belongs to older model years, though many sites still repeat it. Current dishwashers carry the standard one-year coverage; check the paperwork for your specific model.
How do I check if my KitchenAid is under warranty without a receipt?
Use the serial number. Our free KitchenAid serial number lookup reads the manufacture date off the tag so you can see roughly how old the appliance is. If it's close to a coverage line — especially the five-year sealed-system window — text us a photo of the tag and we'll confirm.
Does using a local repair shop void the KitchenAid warranty?
No. KitchenAid's current warranty document states that using unauthorized service providers or non-genuine parts will not void the warranty. Warranty-paid repairs still go through KitchenAid's authorized network, but an out-of-pocket repair at a local shop doesn't cost you the remaining coverage.
