On a service call to Canton, OH, Samuel Willhite diagnosed a Maytag refrigerator (model MBF1958DEH00) with a warm fresh-food section despite a working freezer. The culprit turned out to be a failed evaporator fan motor, and the refrigerator was back up and running the same visit.
The Problem
Refrigerator not cooling — freezer works but fridge section stopped. Melted black piece connected to heating element at bottom of cooling coils in freezer compartment.
The Repair
Customer had Unit disassembled. I powered the fridge on to let it start cooling while I started checking it out. Found 120 V to evaporated fan motor, but it was not spinning. By then I was able to verify that the frost pattern was very healthy. Replaced fan motor, good to go.
Parts replaced: W11024089 (evap motor).
