A commercial laundry facility on West Main Street in Louisville called for washer repair service. Their Dexter commercial washers were having drainage issues, with one unit tripping the electrical breaker during operation. Our diagnosis revealed slow drainage was causing excessive amp draw during the spin cycle.
The Problem
The commercial laundry reported one Dexter washer was tripping the breaker. During our initial service call, we identified drainage problems affecting multiple units in the facility.
Diagnosis
The washer that was tripping the breaker was draining too slow — the drain line in back was plugged. When it doesn’t drain properly, it pulls too many amps in the spin cycle. The unit was taking 45-50 seconds to drain when it should drain in 15-20 seconds.
The Repair
- Parts replaced: RB150003-KIT BELT&PUMP MODEL M/N — drain pump installation
- Work performed: Installed drain pump, replaced the drain lines on the last three Dexters in the back, cleared obstruction from plugged drain line
- Result: After clearing obstruction, it drained in the appropriate time of 15-20 seconds
Is It Worth Repairing?
Dexter commercial washers are built for heavy-duty laundromat use and designed for frequent repairs and parts replacement. In a commercial setting, keeping these units running is essential for business continuity, making drainage system repairs a smart investment even on older models.
Maintenance Tips for Dexter Commercial Washers
- Monitor drainage times regularly — units should complete drain cycles in 15-20 seconds
- Check drain lines quarterly for lint buildup and obstructions, especially in high-volume facilities
- Schedule preventive drain pump inspections to avoid amp overload and breaker trips
