We recently completed a double appliance repair at a home on Valleyview Avenue Northwest in Canton, OH. The customer reported that their washer was not draining correctly and the dryer was not tumbling. What started as two separate issues turned into a comprehensive repair of both machines.
The Problem
The customer contacted us because their washer was not draining correctly and their dryer was not tumbling at all. Both appliances in the laundry room had failed simultaneously, leaving the household without any way to do laundry.
Diagnosis
On the dryer, we found that the belt had broken completely. During our inspection of the washer, we discovered the hub was stripped. While disassembling the washer agitator, we also found coins trapped in the drum’s coin trap that needed to be cleared out.
The Repair
- Parts replaced: W10913953 actuator, W10528947 hub, 4392065 dryer repair kit, W10752285 wash plate, 279838 element, WP3392519 thermal fuse
- Work performed: Replaced the dryer belt, tensioner pulley, and support wheels using the Whirlpool dryer repair kit. Broke the agitator to replace the stripped hub. Cleaned coins out of the coin trap in the drum and replaced the mode shifter
- Result: Both appliances restored to full working order
Is It Worth Repairing?
Kenmore washers and dryers from this era are generally solid machines worth repairing. The 110 series models are workhorses that can last many more years with proper maintenance. When you’re dealing with multiple issues like this, fixing both appliances is typically more economical than replacement, especially when the problems are mechanical rather than electronic.
Maintenance Tips for Kenmore Washers
- Check pockets thoroughly before washing to prevent coins and small objects from getting into the coin trap
- Run a cleaning cycle monthly with washer cleaner to prevent buildup in the drum and hoses
- Inspect the agitator hub annually for signs of wear or stripping
