A Frigidaire electric range in Alliance lost its front-left burner when corrosion destroyed the terminal connection. We replaced the surface element and repaired the damaged wiring to restore full cooktop function.
The Problem
The customer reported that the front-left burner wouldn’t heat at all. When they tried to use it, nothing happened — no glow, no warmth, completely dead. This left them with only three working burners on their electric cooktop.
Diagnosis
We found the LF surface element had failed due to severe corrosion at the terminal connection. The corroded lead wouldn’t maintain contact with the element, creating an open circuit. Continuity testing confirmed the element was dead, while voltage checks showed the infinite switch and 240V supply were working correctly. The corrosion had eaten through the terminal connection completely.
The Repair
- Parts replaced: 316135401 — LF surface element
- Work performed: Replaced corroded burner element and repaired terminal connection
- Result: Front-left burner heats evenly; all four burners now functional
Is It Worth Repairing?
This Frigidaire model is a solid mid-range electric range that typically runs for 12-15 years with proper care. Surface element failures are common wear items that don’t indicate broader problems with the unit. At this age and repair scope, it’s definitely worth fixing rather than replacing.
Maintenance Tips for Frigidaire Electric Ranges
- Use flat-bottom cookware and avoid dragging pans across elements to prevent damage to the coil surface
- Clean spills immediately, especially around element terminals where moisture causes corrosion
- Remove drip pans regularly and check terminal connections for signs of corrosion or looseness
