We recently completed a washer repair in Salem, OH for a customer whose Admiral washer was leaking water and would not drain. The bearings and seal on the drain pump had gone bad, causing water to leak out of the bottom of the washing machine, and by the time we arrived, the pump had locked up completely.
The Problem
The customer reported that their washer was leaking water and would not drain. This is a common symptom when drain pump components fail, typically starting with seepage and progressing to complete drainage failure.
Diagnosis
The bearings and seal on the drain pump had gone bad. This caused water to leak out of the bottom of the washing machine. By the time we got to the repair, the pump had locked up and was no longer draining at all.
The Repair
- Parts replaced: 134890500-SPRING, 131268401-PUMP-DRAIN ASSY
- Work performed: We were able to clamp the hose shut so the water did not drain out. This enabled us to replace the drain pump without draining the water on the washing machine first.
- Result: Also made it easy to test the machine after installing the pump. The wash machine is operating correctly.
Is It Worth Repairing?
Admiral washers are generally reliable machines that can provide years of service when properly maintained. A drain pump replacement on these units is typically cost-effective compared to replacement, especially if the tub and other major components are in good condition.
Maintenance Tips for Admiral Washers
- Check pockets for coins, bobby pins, and small objects that can damage the drain pump impeller
- Use appropriate detergent amounts to prevent excessive suds that can strain the pump
- Run a cleaning cycle monthly to prevent buildup in the pump and drain system
