A Samsung dryer in Massillon was making loud noises during operation and eventually stopped working entirely, with the check vent light illuminated. Our diagnosis revealed failed internal components that were preventing proper drum rotation and heating function.
The Problem
The homeowner reported that their Samsung DV45H6300EG/A3 dryer had been making increasingly loud noises during operation before finally stopping completely. The check vent light was on, and the drum wasn’t rotating properly when we arrived.
Diagnosis
Opening the dryer cabinet revealed the root causes: a seized idler pulley that was no longer maintaining proper belt tension, and a failed heating element assembly. The idler pulley bearing had worn out, creating the loud grinding noise and eventually preventing the drum from turning. The heating element showed continuity breaks and needed replacement to restore proper drying performance.
The Repair
- Parts replaced: DC93-00634A idler pulley, DC93-00154A heating element assembly
- Work performed: Removed drum to access idler pulley, installed new pulley assembly, replaced heating element and duct assembly
- Result: Drum rotates smoothly, heating element tested for proper resistance, check vent light cleared
Is It Worth Repairing?
This Samsung model from the mid-2010s is generally worth repairing when the issue is mechanical components like pulleys and heating elements. These are wear items that commonly fail around the 8-10 year mark, but the cabinet, controls, and motor typically have many more years of service life remaining.
Maintenance Tips for Samsung Dryers
- Clean the moisture sensor bars inside the drum monthly with a soft cloth and mild detergent to prevent false “dry” readings
- Check the idler pulley for squeaking sounds during operation — early replacement prevents drum damage
- Clear the internal lint filter housing annually, as Samsung models accumulate lint behind the main filter
