A GE refrigerator on State Route 44 in Ravenna had been slowly warming its fresh food section for nearly two weeks before the owner connected the spoiled milk to the appliance. Samuel found the fresh food cabinet sitting at 60 degrees, traced the problem to a failed evaporator fan motor, and had the cabinet recovering to setpoint before leaving the call.
The Problem
Notes: Timing details: About two weeks ago the milk was going bad but I thought I had just got bad milk. After the second gallon went bad I realized it was the refrigerator.
Problem: Freezer is cooling and the meat tray is cooling but the main section is only 54 degrees.
The Repair
FF at 60°F. Entered SmartHQ service mode, commanded FF evaporator fan — 0 RPM under HIGH command, motor failed open. Replaced FF evaporator fan motor. Retested: 1882 RPM at HIGH command. Ice cabinet and deli pan fans, damper, thermistors, defrost, condenser fan, and door seals all checked good. No active fault codes. FF cabinet temp recovering to setpoint.
Parts replaced: WR60X26866 (fan).
