A Whirlpool washer in East Canton wasn’t switching into spin cycle after rinse and would go back to wash then stop. The customer could manually select “drain & spin” mode and it would work fine. We found a stored error code for long fill or no fill caused by a partially obstructed cold water screen.
The Problem
The washer wasn’t switching into spin cycle after rinse. It would go back to wash and stop. The customer could get it to spin by manually putting it to “drain & spin” mode.
Diagnosis
The washer had a stored error code for long fill or no fill. During inspection, we found the cold water screen was partially obstructed. Sometimes this can cause the machine to kick out of the vents after the wash cycle. The transmission, clutch and pulleys looked good.
The Repair
- Parts replaced: None required
- Work performed: Cleared the obstructed cold water screen and recalibrated the machine
- Result: Machine successfully passed the automatic diagnostic test mode
Is It Worth Repairing?
Whirlpool washers are solid mid-range machines that typically run 10-15 years with proper maintenance. This WTW4816FW2 is a direct-drive top loader that’s generally reliable. Since this repair required no parts and only service cleaning, it’s definitely worth fixing.
Maintenance Tips for Whirlpool Washers
- Check and clean the water inlet screens every 6 months to prevent fill issues
- Run a cleaning cycle monthly with Whirlpool Affresh or white vinegar to prevent buildup
- Leave the lid open after use to air dry and prevent mold growth in the tub
